The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ. Another purpose is to develop a creative and supportive fellowship, also expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.
We currently meet the fourth Monday of every month at noon in the Church kitchen. We have a business session and a program utilizing the program book printed by the women’s division, prayer calendar, Response, and New World Outlook magazine.
This year we hosted the New Bern Sub-district meeting with an interesting speaker from the Salvation Army giving us the history and goals of that organization. We sponsor the “Fat Tuesday” pancake supper with the proceeds going to the Rainbow Covenant. This coming year we are the hosts for the annual call to prayer and self-denial that we join with Dover and Asbury units to observe. We participate in three Mission studies each year. In March we will be host to the current study on Afghanistan.
We have Christmas projects which include:
Gifts for all seniors in the
Church.
Gift certificate for a needy
person in our congregation.
Sent clothing & personal care
kits for children in Appalachia through Tender Loving Care Ministries, Inc.
In 2005 our Church celebrated its Centennial and we had a Remembrance and honor tree in the Vestibule to remember those who have inspired and served us in the past and honor those who encourage us such as, leaders, co-workers, new babies, and fellow Christians.
Other events include:
In May serve students a
dinner on Senior Prom Night with pictures of them and their dates.
Provide paper products to
bereaved families and serve meal to the family.
We make a reservation for a
Christmas meal and invite all the ladies in the Church.
We support missions with
candle burning at Annual Conference Meeting by remembering & honoring
individuals.
We are a seven star unit by
going in the seven avenues of participating in Missions.
We make annual pledge and
support projects with undesignated giving for Missions.
In conclusion, we strive to better the plight of women and children at home and around the world and would like to include all the women of the Church in this Mission.
